Local action...
Red Alert has a network of local volunteer groups who carry out practical
conservation work for red squirrels. Some of the work you could be involved
in includes...
Controlling
grey squirrels...
Red Alert provides advice on the humane control of grey squirrels. It
is important to understand that in areas near red squirrel populations
grey squirrel numbers usually need to be controlled to allow red squirrel
populations to survive. Many local people are involved in this much
needed practical element of red squirrel conservation work. Red Alert
is always seeking ways non-lethal methods of grey control as an effective
alternative.
Alleviating
threats...
Red Alert also works where there are threats to red squirrels like road
mortality and disease. For example, if there is a roadkill blackspot
for red squirrels in your local area you could work with us to
install some red squirrel rope bridges.
