What can you do to help red squirrels?

Many people are interested in and care about red squirrels. What can you do to help them?

  • Become actively involved by joining your Local Red Squirrel Group. Red Alert has a network of local volunteer groups who carry out practical conservation work for red squirrels. Some of the volunteers are woodland owners.

The sub-menu on the left gives you an idea of how you can help as a red squirrel volunteer. Find out about the activities carried out by local groups and how you might like to help.

Some simple additional things you can do will also make a valuable contribution to our work. Other ways you might be able to help include...

  • Report sightings of red and grey squirrels in England to Red Alert North West.

  • Become a Friend of the Red Squirrel to learn more about our work and to help fund Red Alert’s vital programme of research and conservation. You can do this and help even if you don't live in the North West of England.

  • It isn't always glamorous but we welcome help in the office with Jana. This might involve work on our squirrel sightings databse, helping write articles for newsletters or coming up with good ideas for fundraising or putting onto the website.
